Motor, encoder and force-feedback performance
Zero-cogging flat-wire motor
The R16 Ultra uses a high-density flat-wire motor designed to minimise cogging and torque ripple. MOZA states that the motor offers approximately 12% higher torque density than similarly sized competing designs. The aim is smoother rotation and more natural transitions as the steering load changes. The base delivers 16 Nm of sustained torque rather than only a short peak output, giving more headroom for stronger vehicle and tyre effects.
21-bit encoder and 600 MHz processor
The magnetic encoder provides 2,097,152 positions per revolution. This steering-position data is processed by a 600 MHz high-performance CPU, supporting small corrections, fine road detail and rapid changes in torque. The encoder and processor form the input layer for MOZA NexGen Force Feedback Algorithm U1.
Algorithm U1 and detailed tuning
MOZA presents Algorithm U1 as the software layer that combines the upgraded hardware with a wider adjustment range. The official technical image specifies an adjustable static-intensity range up to 300% and an adjustable damping-effect range up to 200%. These settings allow the response to be adapted to different vehicles, steering wheels and driving preferences.
Native iRacing, interpolation and FFB decoupling
Native iRacing support includes 360 Hz high-frequency force feedback and Wheel LFE. Force-feedback interpolation blends adjacent samples to create smoother torque delivery while retaining road texture, kerb vibration and other high-frequency details. Game FFB Decoupling separates the incoming game signal into individual adjustable components, making it possible to tune effects more independently.
Construction, cooling and safety
CNC-machined aluminium housing
The housing uses a rigid die-cast aluminium-alloy body with a CNC-machined exterior. MOZA positions this construction as a way to provide the torsional rigidity required for sustained high torque while keeping unnecessary weight to a minimum. The wheel coupler is also aluminium alloy. The compact housing measures 206 × 140 × 135 mm.
Slip-ring durability and ecosystem connection
MOZA states that the integrated slip ring is designed for more than 10 million rotations and transfers data at up to 2 Mb/s. Dedicated ports are provided for power, PC, pedals, dashboard, shifter, handbrake and an emergency-stop switch. This native connection layout allows supported MOZA peripherals to connect directly without relying on additional USB hubs.
Intelligent thermal management
The cooling system combines real-time temperature monitoring with smart torque regulation. MOZA states that this provides additional thermal headroom and helps the base maintain stable operation during demanding sessions. The system is intended to reduce excessive heat without abruptly interrupting the driving experience.
Hands-off protection
Hands-off protection is designed to detect uncontrolled oscillation when the driver's hands are no longer on the steering wheel. When activated, the system can stop the oscillation and bring the wheel back towards centre. This is a safety function and does not replace correct torque settings, a rigid cockpit or careful use.
RGB lighting, software and mounting
Two RGB light strips support 16.7 million colours. The lighting can be customised and can display supported telemetry-related effects such as ABS, traction control, gear changes and flag signals. MOZA Pit House provides calibration, profiles, effect equalisation, steering and damping settings, device monitoring and firmware management. Cloud-based mobile-app configuration is also supported.
The R16 Ultra supports bottom, front and side mounting. A rigid cockpit and suitable high-torque bracket are strongly recommended. MOZA quick release is supported.
